The Destructive Pornographic Industry

The traditional family is under constant attack in today’s world. The pornography industry is a cancerous evil that is eating away at our society. Pornography has grown by astronomical proportions during the last two decades. The pornography industry now takes in an estimated revenue of eight to ten billion dollars annually. This exceeds the revenue of Hollywood’s domestic box office and is more than twice as large as the revenue of major league baseball. (Schlosser, Eric. "The Business of Pornography," U.S. News & World Report, February 10, 1997, p.44). Just twenty-five years ago a federal study estimated that the total retail value of pornography was between five and ten million dollars, that means that it is 1,200 times larger today.

Pornography’s evil now touches the lives of every man, woman, and child in the United States. Whether you realize it or not, it affects the lives of you and your family. It is no longer restricted to the XXX movie theaters or the "adult" bookstores. Pornography is now easily accessible and readily available through video tapes, cable television, telephone lines, and home computers. Advances in technology have facilitated the spread of pornography. It is big business controlled by the cooperative efforts of organized crime and major corporations.

Pornography perverts what God created for great joy and fulfillment. The sexual expression of love between a husband and a wife is one of the wonderful designs of God, but pornography twists this plan into an unrecognizable form. The images portrayed through this media is not what the Lord had in mind.

Pornography feeds the evil desires of man. It changes our attitudes and damages our character. It destroys marriages and tears apart families. Most psychologists agree that pornography is one of the main instigators of sexual crime. This so called victimless crime leaves behind a path of destruction everywhere it touches.
